Local Business Wins Top Green Award

Allen Construction Consultancy are one of the major prize-winners in the International Green Apple Awards 2007 for the Built Environment and Architectural Heritage.

Allen Construction Consultancy have been given the National Gold Award in recognition of their work on the Quantock Cemetery, Bridgwater. The trophy was presented by top botanist and TV personality Professor David Bellamy, OBE at Kensington Roof Gardens.

The trophies are awarded annually in recognition of building projects that enhance the built environment and/or protect our architectural heritage. The judges commented: Renovation of the keepers lodge and the splendid chapel coincided with enlargement and upkeep of the cemetery grounds and the addition of a grounds office. All features of the cemetery are now restored and maintained, but the chapel restoration work has given this facility a real feel of care and peace where people need it most.

The award-winning project will be featured in the next National Treasures guide and the council will also be presented with a prestigious Green Plaque later in the year, during a special prize giving ceremony at the House of Commons.

National Organiser Roger Wolens commented: "We had around 550 nominations this year and presented about 60 awards, so they did particularly well to triumph against some very strong competition."
