The Project
Allen Construction Consultancy was appointed to manage a ‘stalled’ refurbishment of the council principal offices at Bridgwater, Somerset, however, the project presented some unique challenges:

• Replace the project management and design team at a late stage
• Deal with potential underfunding
• Clarify the expectations of stakeholders
• Maintain services with an occupied building of 300 staff

Our Role
Firstly, we conducted a Project Audit addressing the issues for concern and presented the findings to a full council meeting. Our report, including a request for an increased budget, was approved on the proviso that we were able to meet the original completion date.

That agreed, we were then free to appoint a new design team and get the clients approval on a revised scheme – all within just one month of the Audit presentation. Tenders were then sought from council approved contractors and other interested parties.

The Outcome
Contracts were let and the project was completed on bang on time, and on cost. The Council was so impressed with the outcome we have since gone on to execute many more projects on their behalf.
